NRA Basic Personal Protection in the Home Course

NRA Basic Personal Protection In The Home course is for law-abiding adult citizens, as defined by applicable federal, state, or local law, and experienced shooters (shooters able to show mastery of the basic skills of safe gun handling, shooting a group, zeroing the firearm, and cleaning the firearm) to maximize what can be learned from this course. Proof of shooting experience can be one of the following: NRA Basic Pistol Course Certificate, NRA FIRST Steps Course Certificate, NRA pistol competitive shooting qualification card, military DD 214 with pistol qualification, or passing the Pre-Course Assessment.

Training & Education Requirements

Course Goal: To develop in the students the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to the safe and efficient use of a firearm for protection of self and family, and to provide information on the law-abiding citizen's right to self-defense.

Length of Course: 8 hours.  The course length may vary depending on the instructor/student ratio and the participants' abilities.

Lesson I: Introduction to Defensive Shooting 

Lesson II: Basic Defensive Pistol Skills (Range Time 3 hrs, minimum 98 cartridges per students) may shoot as many as 250 rounds to qualify

Lesson III: Firearms and the Law:  Possession, Ownership, and the Use of Deadly Force (Note this Lesson instructed by attorney)

Lesson IV: Strategies for Home Safety and Responding to a Violent Confrontation
Lesson V: Selecting a Pistol for Self-Defense
Lesson VI: Sport Shooting Activities and Training Opportunities
Lesson VII: Course Review and Examination

Class Schedule

All classes must be paid in full at the time of registration. The registration fee for all classes is nonrefundable. If you wish to switch to an alternate class, you must contact the Trigger Action, LLC at least one week prior to the date of the classes for which you registered, and we will try to accommodate your request when possible. We reserve the right, at any time, to cancel an under-subscribed program. In the case of any such cancellation, we will refund the cost of class or offer you the option of rescheduling. Because of age and other restrictions, not all persons will be eligible to participate in this program. Trigger Action, LLC reserves the right to change the program, and for safety or other reasons, exclude or dismiss any person from the program at any time.

Safety Concerns: For the safety of all students attending the class, please NO open-toed shoes as well as NO low cut shirts, like tank tops. Athletic style clothing and footwear is recommended.
